5 Solar Power Facts That Will Stun You!

It’s Sun Awareness Week, a time of year typically dedicated to raising awareness of sun safety. Whilst we think sun safety is very important, we’d like the take this opportunity to celebrate one of our sun’s most amazing features: its ability to generate energy that can be used to power our homes, cars, and anything else you can think of! With that in mind, here are five solar power facts for Sun Awareness Week!

  1. 1. Solar Energy is Clean, Inexhaustible and can be Transformed into Other Forms of Energy

It’s true! Solar energy is a form of renewable energy that can be harnessed by using Photovoltaic (PV) solar panels just like the ones we here at Griff Services provide. These solar panels can be installed in the home or at work to power all manner of appliances and solar energy can even be stored in a solar power battery to use when direct access to solar energy isn’t possible (at night, for example).

2. The Sun’s Energy is Produced as Part of a Process Known as Nuclear Fusion

Nuclear fusion is a complex chemical reaction that happens when the nuclei of two atoms (such as hydrogen atoms) fuse to form a new “heavier” atom with a smaller mass (such as helium). This extra mass is expelled as energy which fires off in all directions, and some of it comes to earth in the form of light energy. This is then collected by solar panels and converted into direct current (DC) electricity which can be used to power your home!

  1. 3. The Sun Pelts the Earth With 35,000 Times the Amount of Energy Needed to Power the Entire Planet

It might surprise you to find out that we have all the energy we need to power the planet, right above us. We’re slowly moving towards a renewable energy revolution but we’re a long way from becoming a completely solar powered planet. If you’re interested in switching to a clean, renewable, and sustainable source of energy then you’ll be pleased to know we can install solar panels and even solar power battery storage in your home!

  1. 4. Despite this fact, Solar energy only accounts for about 3% of the UK’s energy production.

Unfortunately, more than 64% of the electricity currently used in the UK is generated by burning fossil fuels. Unlike solar energy, which is completely clean, burning fossil fuels releases harmful gasses which contribute towards climate change. On average, a home solar panel system could cut your carbon dioxide emissions by over a tonne and a half each year.

5. You Can Become Completely Grid Independent by Using Solar Power

By switching to solar power, you become your own energy supplier. Storing excess solar power in a solar power battery can make it so that you don’t have to pay for any additional energy from the National Grid. This means that you can say goodbye to your energy bill!

We here at Griff Services offer some of the shortest solar panel installation turn-around times in the country. Enquire now and you can have your solar panels up and running within just two weeks of your initial enquiry!
